Scholarship programme: Estonian national scholarship programme for international students, researchers and academic staff
Aim of the scholarship: The mobility grants are intended to support visits of researchers and academic staff of foreign institutions of higher education to the Estonian institutions of higher education (HEI) and research and development institutions. The mobility grant can be applied for research, scientific work, teaching, cooperation with colleagues etc.
Who are eligible to apply: The academic staff means the persons working in the position of the professor, associate professor, lecturer, assistant or lecturer of the university according to the equivalent qualification of the foreign countries. The researcher means the persons working in the positions of junior researcher, researcher, senior researcher or leading researcher according to the equivalent qualification of the foreign countries.
The scholarship rate for Doctoral studies is equal to the doctoral allowance granted in Estonia and is paid in accordance with the Study Allowances and Study Loans Act. A student who has been awarded a scholarship for Doctoral studies under this Programme is not eligible for concurrent receipt of a doctoral allowance under the Study Allowances and Study Loans Act.
Rates, periods and conditions
Mobility grants are divided into short-term (1-9 days) and long-term (10 days – 10 calendar months) mobility grants.
Scholarship rate for short-term visit is 45 EUR per day and 660 EUR per month. The month is considered to be the 30-day period. The grant period is the period from the first day of work up to the last day of work according to the dates mentioned in the letter of confirmation of the recipient institution. During the period of payment of grant the scholarship recipient should stay in Estonia.
Application procedure and deadlines
For researchers the following additional documents shall be submitted May 15th at the latest:
- application form and motivation letter through online application system;
- CV (EUROPASS format preferred);
- letter of confirmation from hosting institution regarding hosting and the period of employment in Estonia.
All documents should be in English or Estonian. Documents must be translated to any of these languages if the language of issuance is different. The foundation has the right to require the additional documents. Submitted documents will be not returned to the applicant. The applications which are not full complicated, drawn up as required, include false information or are submitted with a delay are not assessed.

The entrance to the institution of higher education is separate from the application for the scholarship. The decision to award scholarship for the applicant does not guarantee his/her admittance to the HEI or research and development institutions. The applicant should submit the required documents to the institution according to the entrance requirements of the institution of higher education. The decision on admittance to the institution of higher education should be adopted before the applying the scholarship.
